La Jara Grant
Cutting Continues
As you know, Rachael Mondragon,
of Urban Interface Solutions, received the Collaborative Forest Restoration Program (CFRP) grant last fall for thinning 750 acres of overtocked ponderoa pine and mixed conifer along lots adjacent to Carson National Forest.
Crews began by working the turn out onto Palo Flechado Pass, the upper road, and thinning behind the homes late in the fall. Cutting will resume as soon as weather permits this spring.
Crews will have cut material on the ground and will be removing it as they work. You may also hear a bobcat working in the area.
REMINDER: No one should be in the vicinity except Rachael's work crews. If anyone sees someone along the upper road gathering wood, please do not confront them. Call Rachael at one of the numbers below.
Rachael is trying to avoid a situation where people come into the project area, and end up wandering around behind private property.
CCCFC Non-Federal Lands Hazardous Fuel Reduction Grant
Colfax County Coalition of Firewise Communities (CCCFC) has been awarded a grant for $300,000 for the removal of hazardous fuels on non-federal land (NFL). The NFL funds will be distributed across the CCCFC 7 member communities (including TPR) to help mitigation of wildfires by removing hazardous fuels.
Bob Randall, TPR Board Member, has volunteered for the enormous job of being the TPR Point of Contact for the actual application of the thinning at TPR; the liason between the coalition, contractors and landowners. Bob has talked with landowners, walked properties . There are several cost factors and wildfire issues that need to be considered.
As the operations begin please check this website for updates!
